Teen Driving Course

Teen Driving lessons may start as soon as they completed the first six (6 hours) of the 32 hour teen classroom program, In-Person or Online, and have obtained their learners license from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

State law requires a total of seven (7) two-hour in-car lessons which consist of one (1) hour of driving and one (1) hour observation plus an additional 30 hours of individual driving with a parent/guardian. Observation hours are not required for Private Lessons

Requirements for TEEN DRIVING or PRIVATE LESSONS

MUST BE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 15-17 and must have a VALID TEXAS LEARNERS LICENSE

TDLR Background Check

Families that are interested in the Parent Taught program will need to have at least one parent who qualifies as an instructor. The main requirements are a clean driving record, has held their Texas drivers license for at least 3 years, with a minimum of 7 years of total driving experience.

32 Hour Permit Class (ONLINE)

The classroom (Permit) portion for the Parent Taught program will be accessed through the online portal. (Login from our website) and can be done at the students own pace. Student must finish the first module to take the Permit Test. Once the student passes, they will be able to go to the DPS to receive their Learners License.

*All 32 hours need to be complete to fulfill the drivers license requirement!*

DPS Permit Appointment

Student must be at least 15 years old to receive their Learners License from the DPS. *Students must bring the following to the DPS*

  • Original Birth Certificate

  • Original Social Security Card

  • Form of ID *TXID, Passport, school ID

  • Verification of Enrollment (V.O.E) obtained at the students Public/Charter/Private school

  • DE-964 certificate *FOR LEARNERS LICENSE ONLY* *Green Certificate*

  • Parent/Guardian + 2 Bill statements within the last 90 days with Parent/Guardian name and address

Once student has their Learners License, they can start driving with adult supervision and their 6 months time limit will start.

14 Hour Behind The Wheel (BTW)

Once the student has their Learners License, it is recommended that parents work with them on their 30 hour driving log.
Students have two options for the driving portion.

  • Continue to use the Parent Taught program to complete the 14 Hour BTW through the online portal.
    OR

  • Contact us to sign-up for In-person driving with a certified driving instructor.

Driving Road Test

Students must complete ALL requirements before taking their road test. Students must be at least 16 years old and have held their Permit for a minimum of 6 months (Restriction F, reverse side of Learners License)
Students will need to bring the following:

  • DE964 Certificate *FOR DRIVERS LICENSE ONLY* showing completion of 32 Hour classroom + 14 Hour BTW.

  • Impact Texas Teen Drivers Certificate *ITTD*

  • 30 hour log

  • V.O.E.

  • Parent present to sign documents for their test.

DPS License Appointment

Schedule your final appointment to get your drivers license. We recommend you bring everything you brought to the DPS for the permit the first time and your sealed envelope from the driving school. After taking your new picture you will have your official drivers license!
Now the student will be able to drive on their own once they have insurance. Congrats!
